La Grande Guerra
Theater production
With the group ‘Fucina degli Errori’
2016
This theater production, created in collaboration with director Maura Pettorruso and actor Stefano Deatassis, is an exploration of the lasting impact of La Grande Guerra on the Trentino-Südtirol region. First staged at the Teatro di Pergine, the performance brings to life deeply personal and collective experiences of war.
The show’s foundation lies in the true stories of our ancestors, passed down through diaries, letters, and oral accounts. We also gathered testimonies from local villagers, whose vivid recollections offer a glimpse into the lives of those who endured the war. These narratives traverse a spectrum of experiences—grief for lost loved ones, sacrifice, the anguish of separation, and the desolation of abandoned homes. Yet amid the sorrow, there are also tales of enduring love, the solidarity of close-knit communities, and the profound joy of reunions when the war finally came to an end.
At its core, this project is an homage to the voices of the past—those who lived through a time of immense upheaval yet found ways to persevere and rebuild. The performance combines historical accuracy with raw emotion, creating a space where audiences can reflect on the impact of war on both individual lives and the collective consciousness of this region.
