Sòl

Regeneration projects
With and thanks to Pau Giralt Font
2023-2024
The Sòl Series brings together a collection of regenerative projects developed with the invaluable support of Pau Giralt Font, unfolding across Baix Empordà, Catalonia, from late 2023 through 2024. Rooted in the principles of permaculture, this series represents our shared commitment to regeneration and sustainability, driven by the urgent need to reverse environmental degradation and restore ecosystems in the face of ongoing ecological challenges.

Together with Pau—a local expert and true rural elf—  we explored how regenerative agriculture and locally sourced food production have the potential to bring about meaningful change.

At the heart of our work is the practice of turning waste into life-sustaining resources. We discovered ways to transform organic refuse into nutrient-rich compost, a process that not only nourishes the soil but also rejuvenates the spirit. In this way, the earth became our teacher, showing us how to alchemize adversity into fertile ground for growth and renewal.

The Sòl Series goes beyond agricultural techniques; it is a call to action for collective healing and ecological balance. It embodies a philosophy of sharing, community, and deep respect for the interconnectedness of all life. Through this journey, we’ve learned to cultivate a profound connection with the soil, embracing its wisdom and marveling at the abundance it offers.
! The projects are currently in their early development and exploration phase. As they evolve, this series may take shape through collaboration with other enthusiasts in the field, enriching the vision and impact. Far from being a finished product, it is a living, growing endeavor and the beginning of a journey that will continue to unfold and transform over time.

A glimpse:

    • Soil sieve
Sieving soil removes debris and stones, creating a fine, aerated base that's ideal for young plants. When mixed with nutrient-rich compost, it becomes the perfect medium for seedlings, providing essential nutrients and promoting healthy root growth.

    • Decomposable organic matter
Dry leaves and branches were collected as they represent decomposable organic matter, which plays a vital role in enriching the soil. As they break down, they release valuable nutrients that improve soil structure, enhance fertility, and support healthy plant growth.

    • From seedbed to vase to garden
Supporting the natural cycles of growth and fostering biodiversity.

    • Providing support by building structures with bamboo canes

    • Rhizome extraction
Removing bamboo roots isn’t so much a regenerative practice as it is the result of a poor decision: allowing them to grow unchecked and then having to take responsibility for fixing it.
